#118: Coaches Unite for Second Strive Taekwondo Training Camp

The Maltese Taekwondo community came together once again for the second collaborative summer training camp, organised by Mauro Busuttil, Head Coach of Strive Taekwondo Club Malta, with guest coaches Gianluca Barbara and Ditmir Vodinaj from Iron Taekwondo League.

Following the success of the inaugural camp held last summer, the second edition continued to build on the spirit of cooperation between clubs, providing athletes from across Malta with the opportunity to learn from different coaching styles while training together in a positive and challenging environment.

Three Days of High-Level Training

The camp was spread over three days, with each coach taking charge of a different aspect of the programme.

Friday's sessions were led by Coach Ditmir Vodinaj, who delivered technically focused training aimed at refining athletes' movement, precision and tactical awareness.

On Saturday, Coach Gianluca Barbara took over the sessions, working with athletes on competitive performance, decision-making and match application through a variety of dynamic drills designed to challenge competitors of all ages and abilities.

The camp concluded on Sunday, with Coach Mauro Busuttil leading an intensive sparring programme consisting of high-volume rotational rounds. Athletes continuously rotated between opponents, allowing everyone to experience a wide variety of fighting styles while developing fitness, adaptability and ring awareness under competition-like conditions.

Building Friendships Beyond the Dojang

While the technical sessions formed the heart of the camp, organisers also recognised the importance of building friendships within the Taekwondo community.

On Saturday evening, the younger athletes came together for a social event packed with fun games and activities. Children from different clubs had the opportunity to get to know one another away from the pressure of training and competition, creating friendships that reflect the true values of Taekwondo—respect, unity and mutual understanding.

Working Together for Maltese Taekwondo

Iron Taekwondo League praised the tremendous efforts made by Coach Mauro Busuttil in organising the camp and for his continued commitment to the development of Taekwondo in Malta.

Events such as these demonstrate what can be achieved when clubs work together with a shared vision: creating more opportunities for athletes, raising coaching standards and strengthening the national Taekwondo community as a whole.

The close collaboration between Strive Taekwondo Club Malta and Iron Taekwondo League, the country's two principal Taekwondo clubs, continues to set an excellent example of how cooperation can benefit every athlete regardless of club affiliation.

As Maltese Taekwondo continues to grow, initiatives like this training camp serve as an important reminder that while athletes may compete against one another on the mats, they are united by a common passion for the sport and a shared ambition to see Taekwondo flourish throughout the country.

Iron Taekwondo League extends its sincere thanks to Coach Mauro Busuttil, all participating athletes, coaches, volunteers and parents for making the second edition of this collaborative training camp another outstanding success, and looks forward to many more opportunities to work together in the future.
