#81: Nurturing Champions: Rising Stars Tournament Sets The Bar

The Rising Stars Taekwondo Tournament, held on July 19th 2025, was a resounding success, showcasing the skill, determination, and sportsmanship of Malta’s young martial artists. A total of 38 exciting matches were held throughout the day, offering athletes the opportunity to gain valuable competition experience in a supportive and well-organized environment.

The competition was organised by Gianluca Barbara, who directs the Iron Taekwondo League, and the event saw a mutual collaboration from newly-formed Strive Taekwondo, led by Mauro Busuttil.

This event took place just one week after the pair led a training camp in Hamrun, following the opening of Strive Taekwondo.

The event was made possible thanks to the incredible dedication of 20 volunteers, whose tireless work behind the scenes ensured everything ran smoothly. From refereeing and logistics to athlete support, their contribution was vital in delivering a professional and encouraging event.

The Rising Stars initiative continues to focus on developing grassroots talent in Maltese Taekwondo, giving up-and-coming athletes a platform to grow in both Kyorugi and Poomsae. The strong turnout and high level of performance are a testament to the growing interest and standard within the local Taekwondo community.
