#82: Promising Performances for Malta at the 2025 European Youth Olympic Festival

Malta proudly took part in the 2025 European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) held in Skopje, Macedonia, marking another important step forward for Maltese Taekwondo on the international stage. Representing Malta in this prestigious youth event were two young athletes from the Malta Taekwondo Association's elite development programme: Alycia Cassar and Michela Scerri, competing in the individual -63kg and -44kg divisions, respectively.

Alycia Cassar, competing in the -63kg category, faced a tough draw against a strong German opponent in her opening match.

Despite the result, Alycia demonstrated composure, sharp technique, and strong fighting spirit throughout throughout the bout. Her performance reflected the discipline and work ethic she’s known for, and her participation at this level will serve as a valuable stepping stone as she continues her international development.

In the -44kg division, Michela Scerri made a statement with an impressive win over Austria in her opening match. Displaying tactical intelligence and confident execution, Michela controlled the match from the outset, winning with a round score of 2:0.

In the following round, she met one of the highest-ranked athletes in the world from Turkey—a formidable opponent. Though the match ended in defeat, Michela held her own and gained vital experience competing at the highest level of youth Taekwondo.

Both athletes represented Malta with honour and determination, earning the respect of coaches, peers, and officials. Their participation at EYOF 2025 is a clear sign of the progress Maltese Taekwondo continues to make in nurturing talent capable of standing on the international stage.

The Malta Taekwondo Association extends its sincere thanks to the Maltese Olympic Committee for their continued support and for making Malta’s participation at the European Youth Olympic Festival possible. Their commitment to developing young athletes and promoting international sporting opportunities is instrumental in the growth of Taekwondo and sport in Malta.
